The fortress was hewn from vast granite blocks to protect the city from marauding tribes from the eastern jungle, the Antis region. Sacsayhuaman ("satisfied hawk" in Quechua, the Inca language) is divided into three vast zig-zagging terraces and flanked by massive stone walls, some up to 300 meters long. As it lies close to Cuzco, and due to the dimension of its stones -some of which stand 5 meters high and weigh over 300 tons- the site was used as a quarry to provide stone for colonial buildings in Cuzco.the hotel. Morning free to get a better accustomed to altitude. In the afternoon, combined ruins and city tour including Sacsayhuaman fortress overlooking the city of Cuzco, the rock sanctuary of Kenko, the red fortress of Puca Pucara and the city: Main Square, the Cathedral, and the Church of Santo Domingo, built on top of the Inca temple Koricancha (Temple of the Sun).

Day 3:  CUZCO – BOCA MANU
Transfer to the airport and departure to Boca Manu (35 min flight) subject to availability. Arrival and departure in 55 feet long dug out canoes to enter the lowland rainforest of the Manu wilderness. Every bend of this meandering river brings a view of unspoiled beauty. We may see Black Caimans and White Caimans, Toucans, Parrots, scores of wild Macaws, several species of raptors and perhaps even a Jaguar. Late in the afternoon we arrive to the Manu Lodge river port. Then we hike 600 m along a flat trail to the Manu Lodge oxbow lake, where guides paddle us to the scheduled Manu Lodge.
Emperor tamarins are found in various forms of light, dry-bottom to densely grown Amazonian forest margins in seasonally inundated regions. Their territories are between 75 - 100 acres and also span open woodlands and secondary growth. This species is arboreal, spending most of its time in trees, usually below 80 - 95 feet in elevation. They are also diurnal (active during the day). Day 4:  MANU
Early in the morning we step out of the lodge and walk twenty metres to board the canoes for a dawn paddle in the morning mists and to hike the trails in search of monkeys, birds and other animals. Visitors may see up to nine different species of monkeys, from the large, acrobatic, Spider Monkey to the bizarre white-moustached Emperor Tamarin Monkey.
Day 5:  MANU
Walk to the river port to travel by motorised boats for a visit to Lake Salvador, which is permanent home for six to nine Giant Otters. These six-foot long, seventy pound otters live in groups and are one of the most spectacular and rare predators in the Amazon Basin. The lakes in Manu are also home to some of the Amazon biggest Black Caimans. It is common to see Red Howler and Capuchin Monkeys resting in trees along the shores of the lakes. Return to the lodge in the afternoon.

Boat down the Manu River to the confluence with the Madre de Dios River. After two hours arrive to the Boca Manu airstrip where we will take our 30 min flight to Cuzco. Arrival and transfer to selected hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to admire once again the city of Cuzco.
The Inca empire was a recent arrival during the process of cultural development in the Andes during the pre-Hispanic era, and the history of the Incas barely accounts for a century within the 20,000 years of human occupation of Peruvian territory. Day 7:  CUZCO – LIMA
