Orange Walk District is one of the most extraordinary areas of Belize, a curious mixture of Chinese, Maya, Spanish and Hindu influences, with a strong Mennonite presence. Jaguars, puma, ocelot, margay and jaguarundi are all on the prowl here and crocodiles bask along the New River. Cow foot soup is a speciality (not suitable for vegetarians!). (
