The Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve of Belize is a perfect example of the diversity this country offers. With its reddish soil, tall pine trees sweeping the sky, and somewhat drier atmosphere, this region presents a sharp contrast to the dense jungle by which it is surrounded. In the heart of this locale rests Five Sisters Lodge opened in 1995, it has been a popular escape for ecotourists and nature lovers. Being situated on ten acres of privately titled land in the midst of the national reserve, you can truly get away from it all here. The lodge is about a one-hour drive from San Ignacio, on the Caracol road, just a few miles beyond the gate at the reserve's entrance.
n early departure takes you to the newly excavated ancient Mayan site of Caracol located deep in the Chiquibul Rainforest. Caracol, in the 7th century A.D., had actually conquered the city of Tikal, Peten, Guatemala. Next stop is the famous Rio Frio Cave where stalactites and stalagmites form an eerie backdrop to an ancient worship place. Finally, swim in the cooling crystalline waters of the Rio On pools as it cascade over granite boulders. The Barton Creek Cave by canoe is one of the most beautiful caves in Belize. This cave was once used by the Maya as a burial site and for other ceremonial purposes. View original pottery and skeletal remains of our Mayan ancestors dating back 2000 years. On your way to the cave, you will drive through the Amish Community of Upper Barton Creek.
A horseback ride through the rainforest, visiting Mayan plazas and ceremonial centers; and then proceed to visit the famous Skeleton Cave where you get to see pottery remains of our Ancient Maya. Your last stop will be at Big Rock Falls where you can take a refreshing dip, before you head back to the lodge. he Five Sisters Lodge & Tours ensures easy access to our gorgeous waterfalls by means of Belize's only hydro-powered rain forest tram! As you decend further down into the rain forest you will see the Five waterfalls, which give the Lodge its name.
