The Chagres Challenge Whitewater Rafting Tour

 The course of the Chagres River is relatively unknown due to the lack of access to the area. To reach the point where the rafts are thrown to the river, it is required a ride in a 4x4 vehicle to reach the small town of San Cristobal, beyond Cerro Azul, in the area of the Chagres National Park. Then, walk for 2 hours a trail until reaching the departure point in a river beach of El Chagres.
This expedition is mainly scenic as the watershed of the river boasts a unique tropical rainforest. This gives you the chance to observe plenty wildlife, including several species of monkeys, sloths, and luckily some other mammals that reach the border to drink water. Observe as well many birds such a Anhingas, Cormorants, King Fishers, Jacanas and other bird species that inhabit the area. As the forest is still virgin, sedimentation is too low, this gives the participants the pleasure to enjoy a swim in crystal, clear water. This river is considered Class II, in other words slow flat moving waters. However, you will find some exiting white water rapids qualified class III rapids. The rafting experience ends when reaching Alajuela Lake, then, by ground transportation, return to Panama City
This tour leaves at 5:30 a.m. and returns to Panama around 8:00 p.m. This expedition requires you to be in good condition as there are 2 hours of walking and paddling down the river.
The price includes 4X4 transportation, rafts, paddles, helmets, life jackets, breakfast, lunch, trained tour guides, and transfers.
Note: It is required to bring waterproof equipment. Leave jewelry, credit cards, money or valuables at home. Children over 12 can only participate accompanied by an adult.
It is recommended to bring one extra set of light clothing in a sealed plastic bag, as the one you will be wearing will get wet. The suggested clothing are short pants, swimsuit, another T-shirt, sneakers or comfortable shoes for walking portion, hat, sandals or water shoes and towel. Do not forget your sunscreen and insect repellent.
