Day - 2 Friday: Quito- Kapawi Jungle Lodge
After breakfast we will transfer you to the local airport for your flight to Kapawi is located near the Ecuadorian and Peruvian border in the Southern Ecuadorian Amazon Basin, on the Pastaza River, a major tributary of the Amazon. Kapawi is one of the most pristine and isolated places in the Amazon Basin and is accessible only by air. The closest town is within ten days walking distance. The lodge is deep in Ecuador’s Amazonian region. Its isolation has help to protect the indigenous tribes as well as the wildlife of the area.
The canopy is teeming with birdlife and the itineraries, tailored to suit your needs, range from short hikes to demanding treks and visits to the Achuar Indian communities. You choose your own itinerary from the many options available at the Kapawi.

Day - 3 Saturday: Kapawi Jungle Lodge
Kapawi is located in the most remote area of the Ecuadorian Amazon basin, in the province of Pastaza. Flights land at Sharamentsa, from where motorised dugout canoes will take you the hour and a half to Kapawi. Sometimes the weather in the tropical rain forest can cause minor delays. Our recommendation is for you to consider adding an extra day to your itinerary after visiting Kapawi to make sure you meet your connecting flights to your next destination.
Achuar is the name of one of the four groups of the linguistic family Jivaro - Achuar, Shuar, Aguaruna and Huambisa. With a population of about 80.000 people, the Jivaro group is by far the most important homogeneous culture in the Amazon basin. Well known in the past for their internal wars, the Achuar now live peacefully in small villages.
They are small scale farmers and also hunt, fish and gather fruits etc. in the rain forest.
At the beginning of the 1970's the Achuar were the only Jivaros who had not suffered any loss of culture due to contact with the Western world
Itineraries
Once in Kapawi, you will be miles away from what civilization - the nearest town is a 2 week walk through the forest. This remoteness is what makes Kapawi such a special and unique place. Please remember that because the only way in and out of the area is by air, we are 100% dependent on the weather.Kapawi offers many options for teh visitor and is characterized by its flexibility. We do not offer fixed programs but you design, with your guide and your own group, the most suitable to meet your interests.
In Kapawi you can do many activities including visits to the Achuar communities, sharing a day with an Achuar family, hikes in the rain forest, canoeing in rivers and lakes, swimming, watching piranias, pink dolphins, wildlife watching, and birdwatching (480 species have been found in the area).

City tour of Quito
Drive through Quito's colonial city, we will visit the Legislative Palace,the Independence Square, the Government Palace. We will also visit the magnificent churches of Compañia and San Francisco. Finally, we will drive upto a hill for apanoramic view of Quito and surrounding mountains.

Day 6 Tuesday: Otovalo Indian Market
Driving north of Quito for an hour and one half, you reach the lush volcanic highlands. This land is abundant in colorfully attired and friendly Ecuadorians historic haciendas, and dominant volcanoes with green and verdant slopes. Your tour takes you to the the Otavalo Indian craft market. Passing along the highways and highlands to the north, you have the opportunity to enjoy a sweeping panorama of Imbabura and Cotacachi Volcanoes ascending above San Pablo Lake. Your first stop is the village of Peguche where traditional native weavers ply their craft, as they have for centuries. Then on to the market at Otavalo , going back thousands of years and famous along the Andes for handicrafts, tapestries, and textiles. At midday, lunch will be served at one of the historical haciendas built between the 17th and 18th centuries. After lunch you have the opportunity to visit Cotacachi, home to Ecuador's finest leather craftsmen. This tour embraces colorful scenery, diverse cultures and and a chance to bargain. At days end, return to Quito and your hotel.

Day 7 Wednesday: Flight to Galapagos - Galapagos Explorer II

The M/V Galapagos Explorer II is designed to provide comfort and scientific information to 100 passengers visiting the Galapagos National Park. Its operation is emphasized with interesting itineraries that offer the best of this pristine paradise. Expert naturalist guides will offer an environmentally friendly and educational cruise focused in the Natural History of the Galapagos. Navigating the Galapagos Islands at a speed of 17 knots, the Explorer II enables passengers to see more of Galapagos in less time. It has capacity for 105 passengers, but due to the National Park regulations, it only carries 100 passengers. Six naturalist guides aboard lead daily shore excursions and offer nightly briefings to prepare passengers for the islands to be visited the next day.
