An excellent way to travel between different tourist destinations is with a car.  The independence and convenience that this method offers added to an extensive road network, makes access possible to the most secret and remote places of Chile 's geography.
     In Chile the services for automobile leasing or rental are varied.  Sagitar Travel will be happy to make the arrangements for you, so there will be no fuss and you get what your want and requested.  In general, driving in Chile is not a complicated task; the streets are generally well-marked with traffic signals, and traffic is orderly except in Santiago where it is a little more complex.  
      
       As far as highways go, the main artery is the Panamerican Highway which runs from the north to the south of the country, crossing through the main cities of Chile , being interrupted occasionally by toll booths.  Along the highway are services such as restaurants and gas stations which become scarcer as the highway heads towards less traveled places.
      You should always carry your driver's license and vehicle registration, since police check frequently. Most countries driver's licenses are honored by car rentals and police controls, although strictly speaking an international license is required.
      A seat belt is mandatory for the driver and companion. Smoking, using a cellular phone or a Walkman is prohibited for the driver. Chilean policemen (Carabineros de Chile) will schedule an appointment for you to speak with the local Judge in case of an infraction and the driver's license is always taken.

     Carabineros are always polite and comprehensive especially with foreigners.
