General Information - Argentina Climate
For residents of the northern hemisphere, Argentina

Argentina 's climate ranges from subtropical in the
northeast, to temperate in the central region, to arid
and semiarid and cold in the south and
along the mountains.
For residents of the northern hemisphere, Argentina
offers the inviting possibility of enjoying two summers in the
same year, but the country's great variety and elongated
geography can make a visit in any season worthwhile.
Buenos Aires' urban attractions, for example, transcend the
seasons, but Patagonian destinations, such as the Moreno Glacier
in Santa Cruz, are best to visit in the summer months
(December to February). The Iguazú Falls in subtropical
Misiones province are best in the southern hemisphere's
winter or spring when heat
and humidity are less oppressive. The winter months
(mid-June to late September) also offer the opportunity to go skiing.

The average temperatures and precipitations (minimum / maximum) for the year in the main cities are:

WEATHER BY REGIONS
Argentina possesses exceptional natural beauties, for it embraces a very diverse territory of mountains, plains and highlands containing all possible weathers. It has various climatic regions with particular sceneries.

1) NOROESTE (NORTHWEST)
It stands out for its warm weather; with mountains of various colours, the Puna highlands, valleys and ravines, and the characteristic towns and cities of great historical value.

2) GRAN CHACO (GREAT CHACO)
Mostly forest areas with sub-tropical weather, marshes and lagoons.

3) MESOPOTAMIA
It has a sub-tropical weather in the northern part and a milder climate in the southern one. It has a very diverse flora and fauna, and its territory contains hillocks, lagoons and marshes, and is crossed by large rivers.

4) CUYO
It has mountainous characteristics (the Aconcagua Mountain rises in the area), with mild and arid weather. However, man's intervention has turned it into an ideal place for wine growing and production by means of irrigation.

5) SIERRAS DEL CENTRO (CENTRAL SIERRAS)
The central sierras of Córdoba and San Luis possess a very benign mild and dry weather, with numerous rivers and manmade water surfaces.

6) PAMPA HUMEDA (MOIST PLAIN)
With temperate weather, it possesses the most productive lands in the country (and one of the best in the world) for agricultural and livestock activities. Its plain is only interrupted by the Tandil and Ventana sierras. It has long and crowded beaches facing the Atlantic Ocean towards the east.

7) PATAGONIA
It is the most extensive region, with a much colder weather accentuated in the southern part. The west is mostly constituted by a mountainous landscape scored by spectacular woods, lakes and glaciers; it has an arid plain in the centre, and long beaches with varied marine fauna to observe to the east. The south end of this region is the southernmost point in the world except for Antarctica, of course.

Northwest | Grand Chaco | Mesopotamia | Humid Pampa | Central Sierras | Cuyo | Patagonia | Falkland Islands
